Here are some crucial rule to take with you while jean shopping this winter.
Advice from Lucky Magazine:
- Slide your hands into the pockets to check the depth. Front pockets should be shallow; extra fabric here can add bulk.
- If you always use a belt, be sure to wear your favorite one when you’re shopping for jeans. Not all belt loops are the same size.
- If the waistband gapes at the back when you sit or it presses torturously into your lower belly, this is a pair you should skip.
- If you find great-in-the-butt jeans with other fit issues, remember that a tailor can make adjustments to both the length of the hem and the fit through the leg.

Also, remember these “rules” for your next purchase. Just because it is in style, doesn’t mean the style will flatter your personal figure…
1.) Steer clear of tapered jeans unless you are over six feet tall. To all the petite ladies – throw them out! They make you look much shorter and your thighs look much larger. These were made for the runway girls and most likely no one else.
2.) If you’ve got some extra weight in the thighs and rear go to a darker jean without the fading in the obvious areas in the thigh and rear. Make sure there is a slight flare or boot cut on the bottom or that it is wide or straight leg all the way down. The hem should fall slightly above your toe cleavage. And if the pockets in the back are very small this will also accentuate a large rear.
3.) If you are slender with a flatter rear (by the way, we hate you) choose a medium wash jean with structure. Smaller pockets in the back always make your rear look bigger and rounder. McDonalds and Dunkin will also help you with this problem. Frequent these places at least five times a week to fill out that backside.
4.) Always make sure that the button fits right below the waist but is not too low rise. This allows you to still appropriately have a waist without your pants falling off with the low rise trend. Ultra low rise ain’t sexy for the majority of women over 20 – keep it classy and sassy with this rule.
5)Wearing pants too high makes your waist look shorter and creates alot of bulk under your shirt. To the more mature females, try “Not Your Daughters Jeans.” These will keep you in style while hiding those less-than perfect areas.
