
Brite Thoughtful Tip: Getting the most out of social and networking events
There are three action steps to follow as you expand your pool of friends and business contacts:
1) Show UP! You can’t create an opportunity for yourself unless you are willing to meet it half-way. Showing up to an event or a new venture is half the battle. By showing up, you have made yourself available to meet new contacts and inevitably, created a greater opportunity for personal relationships and/or business advancement.
2) Help UP! Help others get to where they want to go and you will ultimately succeed. The greatest successes in life are helping others succeed first. It will come back ten-fold.
3) Follow UP! After an event, make sure you follow up. Your greatest opportunity window is in the follow-up. Even if you aren’t a “business match” at the time, follow-up regardless. A quick email telling them it was nice meeting them will suffice. Keeping each other in mind for the future is key. Even though it may not be a business match at the time it could lead to other contacts and lasting friendships.
